Green Moss Agate is found in India, Brazil, Uruguay, central Europe and the United States. It is a grayish to milky white agate that is a variety of Quartz. It is formed from weathered volcanic rocks. The colour is due to trace amounts of iron or chrome. The metals can make different colours based on their oxidation state. The "moss" is oxidized minerals embedded in the stone, that forms filaments and other patterns that are suggestive of moss.

It is a member of the Trigonal crystal system.
