Collection: Black Quartz

The name Black Quartz is used mostly in Scotland, specifically for the deposit in the Cairngorm Mountains, where it is found.  It is also known as Morion by the Polish, German, Danish and Spanish.

It is a variety of Quartz that ranges in clarity from almost completely transparent, to black in colour. Like other quartz gems, it is a silicon dioxide crystal. The colour results from free silicon formed from the silicon dioxide by natural irradiation.

It is a member of the Trigonal crystal system.

Metaphysically, Black Quartz is used for protection, grounding and is a great tool in meditation.
